I only come out at night: Time

Time 1.

I have started writing this blog about ten times already. I have chosen a different song for every incipit. For every chosen song, I have sworn because of my dirty glasses. I have been wearing glasses for a lifetime, I can tell, if you focus properly, they will never be completely clean. Time to start again. It is like there‘s always something more important to do, but everything is in fact meaningless. If you have distance from all of it, on a Saturday night where a party is taking place in every club, where a performance is taking place on every stage, it is all special, and it‘s just debatable. A puzzle piece like another, the puzzle is the same, it‘s just mirrored, and upside down. Who am I, here? I‘m part of this city, but I am thousands of kilometres far away from this city.

Time 2.

The last months have passed slowly, I have felt them one by one. Time is in fact running slower, I am having the chance to analyze it better. As if in a frenzy, I changed bed, lamps, sofa, bookshelves, curtain. As my first step, I closed a chapter that has been lying open since I have moved into this flat. I still have a thousand notes all over the place, that I dishonorably ignore. As for the rest, I have settled down. The walls are empty. I only want to have what I really like, I don‘t need to hang any shit just to fill the space up. I have a whirling dervish above an Art Deco sofa, plus a couple of mirrors to create more space. There is a serigraphy of a dervish by Franco Battiato, in the guest room where I sleep, when I go visit my family in the winter house. Mom also brought me from a trip in Turkey, a small bowl where a darvish is hand-drawn.  The mirror in my bedroom is covered by a light blue pashmina, for a game of balances, it connects me to the building on the other side of the yard.

Time 3.
A volte è difficile rimettermi a lavorare come vorrei.

Time 4.

Time 5.
Siamo topi e niente altro. Un anno ho persino vissuto sottoterra, no joke. Avevo vent‘anni ed ero pronto a tutto.

Time 6.

It looks like I have withdrawn from everything, I don‘t see anybody anymore, I don‘t go anywhere, anymore. I do not really have the perception I have withdrawn from anything at all, I rather think I am charging, or recharging. There are sporadic moments I feel a very strong excitement. Is it the same way kids feel as they are waiting with their parents for the train to come? It has happened in this half a year, let‘s say, five times. For somebody who anesthetizes everything he feels, this is big news. “All I‘ve ever had to do a long time ago”. I bought a microphone, professional headphones and a loop station. At times, it is so hard for me to go back to work the way I would like to. My work is a personal path, I do it for myself.

When I see people in the streets, I think they are being busy with their chores, they are maybe going to visit a friend, or they are maybe heading back home. Will they cook anything or eat frozen pizza? There is so much loneliness out there. We are accustomed to the fact that people are alone and to be alone. I look at people and I think their lives are not that important after all, they are irrelevant to me. It is the issue with wars and disasters far away. As human beings, made of flesh and bones, that will shatter into pieces for nothing, we should be empathetic, stop working, stop having fun and do something! Why don‘t we do it? Why do we think we can still save ourselves, if we ignore all the rest?

I like to walk and look at houses from the outside. I like to think about your lives, all so busy, busy to create the right atmosphere. I see the same lamps hanging from every living room. With a closed door, the space is determined. Sometimes, when I come back home, I feel so sad, I feel I am being happy in my small flat, what the hell!, it is just a two-room apartment that overlooks an inner courtyard. We are nothing but mice. For one year I even lived underground, no joke. I was twenty years old and I was ready for everything.

Just yesterday, thinking about my living condition, I felt terribly guilty. While I worry that my flat overlooks an internal courtyard, war goes further and people are homeless in the cold. After all, hasn‘t it always been like that? As you move, you step in shit and you won‘t be as politically correct as you would like to. Also, why are we so insecure? I think about it when I see you in the street. I think about it, as I put some eyeliner on. To tell the truth, I have got ridden of almost everything. In my private life I am a monk who dresses in black. Everything looks ridiculous to me. Do I need to belong? Do I need to show off? Do I need anything at all? It really bothers me that I may need anything at all. But also, if the fancy characters during the centuries, wouldn‘t have showed off and dressed beautifully, we would know nothing of their time‘s fashion. Instead we do, through the work of painters. A simple cloth, a simple skirt could have been a simple undecorated cloth for all classes and all centuries. Instead the rich have needed to show its power, and the poor have longed to be the rich. My head is gonna blow up.

Time 7.
Volevo andare a vedere Patti Smith

I wanted to go see Patti Smith at her November shows in Berlin. Something happened, I didn‘t notice the ticket, I forgot to double check. I keep so many notes, I lose everything. I need to find a way to tidy up my thoughts. I have over forty tabs open right now. I had a similar amount weeks ago, then Atti needed to close the whole bunch to activate some music program. We shut the whole bunch, and I have already created a brand new set. See it as a bouquet, instead of petals, I have information. I am always looking for something. There is a lot of research I am doing about my family. There are connections to the emperor Charles the Great and, more recently, to the “Academy of the Arcadians“. Our names keep repeating, one after the other, over the centuries.

Time 8.

Time 9.

A volte mi sorprende come riesca a ricordare tutto ciò.

I was requested to write down my diet for a week. It‘s turning out as a nice experiment. I believe we are all becoming a little bit too freaky about our diets. While I was adding some poppy and linseeds to my breakfast, I was thinking about my grandad. He lived ninety-two years and didn‘t care as much. Surely the quality of the food was way better. Everything is just a bit too much, now. As I care about my diet, I try to remind myself that everything is also distracting me. I should spend days reading and playing. Talking about this, I finally closed a few books I was reading: Ballard with “Cocaine Nights”, Yourcenar with “The Abyss” and “The War of Art” by Pressfield. I even feel embarrassed to insert this one here. I remember about one year and a half ago, or maybe two, I was with this friend. He used to live in a container and next door, a friend of his lived. My friend often slept in his friend‘s container, I think actually he spent most of his time there, since the friend was often on tour. That place was filthy. I remember myself trying to sleep on that mattress, it was too stinky. Plus a bucket full of piss in the corner? The night ended up in a fight anyway and I left. No news. Back to the guy who originally rented this container. I met him once and he suggested me to read this book, “The War of Art”. At times I am surprised how I remember such things. In my “frenzy” to do all I should have done already, I read the book. The references to God are countless. I believe he refers to the religious God, otherwise, let‘s call it differently, δαίμων, maybe.
